Remember Speedee Mart?

Last Sunday's Union-Tribune had an article about the late Henry Boney, his family, and the many supermarkets they started.  I thought it might bring back some memories.  Click HERE to enjoy.

  1. A funny story about Speedy Mart. I lived in the College Grove area, just off of Boren. I was about 8 years old and male, and my Mom sent me to Speedy Mart on an urgent mission. She gave me a piece of paper with the item to be purchased. So I went to the store. I searched and searched, and found napkins and went up to buy them. But I wasn't totally sure if these were the proper napkins. So I asked the clerk, are these sanitary? The clerk looked at me, and said, what? I said my Mom sent me to get napkins, but they have to be the sanitary kind.

The poor clerk closed her eyes, smiled shook her head and told me no, and went to get the Kotex. I had no idea that those were what my Mom wanted. I paid and went home.
