For people who attended Crawford High School or would have attended if they hadn't
moved -- or just have fond memories of San Diego in the '40s, '50s and '60s.

My long-time friend, and winner of the 1981 Miss Pacific Beach contest when I ran the pageant, Anna Chamberlin, is now a grandmother and went in for hip replacement surgery yesterday.  I took the photo below when she came to visit last week.

This photo transported me back to the days in late Fall when the new cars came out.  You could go into the dealership, a teenager with acne, and pretend you were a buyer -- and you got to leave with a snazzy full-color brochure showing white families cruising through the countryside, convertible top down, with the breeze flowing through their hair.

This photo popped up on an I Love California Facebook page, with a question in the comment section -- "Why is a hotel in San Diego named after a Civil War general?"  I didn't respond, partly because I didn't know the answer.  He WAS also the President of the United States.  I think his son, Ulysses S Grant Jr was involved in its building.  Anyway, click HERE to see this photo enlarged, and to compare it to a similar photo from the same era.

My Spitfire model went to live with its big brother at Montgomery Field.  Mike McKittrick '60 has a friend who's built his own Spitfire, powered by a Chevy 283 engine.  Click HERE to visit the 306 Squadron Hangar.
