IT’S STILL DARK AND DRIZZLY IN PACIFIC BEACH and I’m awaiting the big storm.  I hope Nancy and I can breakfast at the Green Flash because I understand it’s been sold and, I assume, will change.

Yesterday’s U-T Business Section featured an article about a fabulous new restaurant coming to Little Italy.  It’s Called “Juniper & Ivy”.  It’s on Kettner Blvd, perhaps between Juniper and Ivy.

Paul Caston, pictured here at Spanish Village, will return for First Thursday at the Amigo Spot.  That’s March 6 at 5 PM.  I may try to talk the cook into preparing my very favorite Chile Relleno Casserole.

Remember the photo Bill Paxton submitted of his parents' liquor store?  The mystery of its location has been solved thanks to the world wide web -- and Bill Mondigo, a 1979 Hoover grad.  All is revealed if you click HERE.

Jay Theskin ‘69 sends word of his mother’s passing on February 15th at age 90. Florence Theskin Carson taught at Horace Mann in the 1960s, then went to PB Junior High as VP.  Click HERE to read more about her and sign the guest book.

YIPPEE!!  THE WATER TO MY NEW KITCHEN was hooked up late yesterday.  I’m about to sit down with my first cup of morning coffee in 27 days (but who’s counting).  Not much to report this week.

IT’S STILL DARK IN PACIFIC BEACH on this Valentine’s Day -- Day 21 of my kitchen remodel. I’m still drinking out of the toilet. The good news is the floor is down, the cabinets are in  and the refrigerator is no longer in the living room.

On August 31, 2013 I totaled my Toyota and turned in my driver’s license.  The good news is my “MR FRY” license plate now occupies the position of honor at the Palapa Bar of my contractor/friend J C Wilding.  I gave it up with the proviso that any memorial services after my death be held in the Wilding’s back yard.

I can’t stand the suspense.  The headline in the February 13, 1964 Golden Anniversary Pacer says Finalists Named For Co-ed Honor.   In the running for Co-ed of the Year were: Jacque Donaldson, Carol Crane, Kathy Slater, Jane Newberry, Joan Clark and Jan Irvine.   Click HERE to read the paper.

Pat Edwards ‘67 is the 2014 Cartouche Award Recipient, given by the Society of American Period Furniture Makers.  Pat is widely recognized as a leader in the field of French Marquetry.  Click HERE find out what all of this means.

Faculty Member Virginia Wilcoxon passed away last Friday, February 7th, nine weeks shy of her 100th birthday — and she was born in Mercy Hospital!!  You’ve probably already missed her services, which are being held this morning at 10:30 at St Vincent Catholic Church in Mission Hills.  Click HERE to read a wonderful obituary and HERE to read the guest book.

IT'S DARK AND WET in Pacific Beach -- Day 14 of the Kitchen Remodel.  The guy comes today to measure for the granite countertops.  I wonder if I'll have running water by Valentine's Day

Carol Traficanti Waldron ‘66 is trying to locate Carol Swenson ‘65.  Ace Investigator Mary Gale Rogers thinks she may have moved to Texas.  We were unable to find her. 

Sue Weetman ‘68, who apparently got some nice responses in her quest for Centaurs, is looking for Jay Easton ‘66.  I did a quick Google search and came up with a Jay Easton who played for the San Diego Symphony.  A lovely fellow — who graduated from high school in 1993.  My database lists 4 Eastons — Jay, Marjoree, Steven and Weston (I’m not making the last one up) -- all of whom are on my missing lists.

Janet Rizzo Reeve ‘67 passed away April 13, 2013 from cancer.  Her friend Janice Landry Cox ‘68 sent me the news.

NIPPY NIGHTS are turning into warm and sunny days.  Nancy and I will probably breakfast somewhere between the beachfront and Pine Valley.

Where is Sharon Coleman?  WHO is Sharon Coleman?  Eric Sarkela ‘60 inherited a 1959 Centaur with her name in it and he’d like to get it back to her if possible.  I don’t have a Sharon Coleman in my database.  Can YOU help?

Joanne Collura ‘60 passed away earlier this month according to Sharon Jobb Reynolds ‘71.  That’s about all I know, except that she lived in Lake Arrowhead and was a Godmother to Sharon’s son.

Nadyne Lieberman McDermott ‘60, I’ve just learned, passed away in 2012.  It’s not too late to sign the on-line guest book.

With all that talk about the Polar Vortex I made sure I was bundled up when I asked Nancy to take a picture outside Green Flash last Tuesday.  Good thing, too.  It was in the low 70s.  That's Crystal Pier in the background.

A few years back I contacted Bill Center ‘63 to see if he could put me in touch with Jerry Coleman, who passed away this week.  A speaker at my Association of Naval Aviation luncheon had cancelled and I needed to get someone to fill in at the last moment.  Bill gave me Jerry’s number, I made the call and Jerry said, “Just tell me when and where.”  He was a big hit and a nice guy.  Click HERE to read Bill Center’s remembrance of Jerry in the Union-Tribune.  

Dudley Mills ‘59 shares a Tijuana burro photo.  He thinks it might be the same burro Joe Schrader ‘70 got his picture taken on.  I’ve started a web page, just in case other folks dig out their burro photos.  Click HERE to check it out.

Guess who’s gonna be a Sexagenerian this year?  Pretty much all of the ladies gathered at Robbie Nelson’s house for the 2014 Class of ‘72 Girls’ Night Out Re-Gifting Party.  Click HERE to look at some more photos.  

Sylvia Horstman Timmons ‘72 passed away January 3, 2014 at her home in Clear Lake, California.  According to her sister Valerie Horstman Morgan ‘74, Sylvia had been ill for several years and had both lungs replaced three years ago.

 Looks like Cyndi Jo Mitton Means ‘68 and her husband Kevin (that's him above) are gonna be cranking up the motor home.  He retired last week after 20 years as a helicopter pilot for the San Diego Police Department.  Click HERE to read the article in the U-T.   Don't miss the video.

Season’s Greetings from Pacific Beach, where it’s dark and cold — but it’s gonna get light and warm.  This is a picture of Crystal Pier I took some years ago.

Looks like I’m having breakfast with the Quaker Oats guy this morning.  Nancy’s staying home in Escondido.  Apparently spending the holidays with The Grinch has taken its toll.

Class of ‘68 members Steve Ko, Brian Lanois and Susan Weetman Belair met in Escondido on December 19th.  Brian moved back to San Diego from Florida three weeks earlier and had a hankering for In ‘n Out burgers, so Susan set up the meet.  I can’t believe Brian held out for three weeks.

Gathered together for a Holiday Get Together at Casa Guadalajara in Old Town on December 23rd were Class of ‘71 cohorts David Feeley, Louis Galpert, Phil Piscopo and Victor Perez.  Victor added the snazzy graphics to the photo.

Bonnie Ipsen returned the newsletter subscription envelope I sent out to the Class of ‘62 earlier this month with a note that her husband Lynn passed away December 30, 2012 at their home in Bishop, CA.

Ed Herrmann ‘64 lost his battle with prostate cancer this week.  A standout athlete at Crawford, and 11 year baseball professional, Ed passed away December 22nd.  Click HERE to read the article Bill Center wrote in the U-T and HERE to sign the CaringBridge Guest Book

IT'S STILL DARK -- and 45 degrees -- in PB.  I think it's quit raining however.  Eggs Benedict at Green Flash in a couple of hours is sounding really good.

I’ll be autographing copies of my Images of America: Pacific Beach book from 11-2 today at the Morena Costco.  I can’t decide whether to wear the new Christmas hat Nancy bought me.

IT’S DARK AND COLD IN PACIFIC BEACH but supposed to warm up over the weekend.  And I think we’re a week away from the shortest day of the year, so it should start staying light a little longer.  I’m afraid that’s all the news I’ve got, save a photo of me and Nancy at the Waffle Spot earlier this week.

Jess “Bob” Colwell ‘70 died of cancer in 1999 reports sister Cathy Colwell Anderson ‘71.  I’ve removed him from the Class of ‘70 Missing Page and added him to the Class of ‘70 Obituary Page and have added Cathy to the Class of ‘71 Email Page.
