Don's Hamburgers

Here's a photo I took in 1959 that might bring back memories. Click HERE to see it enlarged.

  1. Another great photo. Yes I remember that corner well. It is 54th Street and El Cajon Blvd. My Grandma lived on 54th St and my 87 year old Mom even remembers Don's Hamburgers. She says we ate there often. 22 cents for a burger. I think we still have some cheap fast food burgers around, but can't eat them anymore!

  2. Didn't they have 10 cent Tuesday burgers? Fun place to go after school.

  3. Friday dinner at my house was often "Shrimp-in-a-basket" from Don's (on TV trays of course)

  4. Loved Don's hamburgers. Had the crap scared out of me one Monday around noon while I was enjoying a Don's burger and Strawberry milkshake. Seems that back in the Cold War era, San Diego had a system of air raid sirens mounted to the tops of power poles all over San Diego. One happened to be there on the corner of 54th and El Cajon Blvd. Hey- does anybody know when the A&P Market turned into a Big Bear Market? I went to Horace Mann Jr. High but moved to San Carlos in 1967. All my friends graduated from Crawford High.
