Sam Harvey ’63 died August 3, 2024.  His life journey came full circle in the place where it all began — San Diego.  His time in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam, marked a chapter of service and dedication to his country.  An avid reader, the whisper of turning pages was a melody to his ears. Camping under the stars, racing through mountain trails on his bike, and casting his line into the waters for that perfect catch brought him solace and joy. Western movies and country music were more than just entertainment, they were pieces of nostalgia that painted the canvas of his soul. His everlasting love for games, such as cribbage, will forever be a staple in our hearts. Sam loved to showcase his skills at the BBQ and in the kitchen. He often had requests from his family to make his signature dishes --and he had many!  Sam has now joined Vikki Harvey, his beloved wife of over 50 years, to begin their next chapter together. His presence, a beacon of light that illuminated even the darkest of days, will forever be missed but never forgotten.

I've often wondered if Sam was the son of Coach Walt Harvey.  I've never seen any mention of it.

This may have been the most florid obituary I've ever had to edit.  You can peruse the unexpurgated version at https://www.featheringillmortuary.com/obituaries/sam-harvey

  1. Someone who knew the family posted a recent comment below the obituary. She mentioned that Sam was the son of Coach Walt Harvey.
