For people who attended Crawford High School or would have attended if they hadn't
moved -- or just have fond memories of San Diego in the '40s, '50s and '60s.

A couple of folks got hacked this week and lost their Fry Day emails.  Just a reminder that you can read the current, and past, Fry Day emails on the Colt Corral blog.  Click HERE -- and save It to your Favorites!!

I am in possession of the late George Fogelmans's Horace Mann and Crawford annuals, courtesy of Gail Schindler Fogelman.  If you'd like to have them, contact me at mail@johnfry.com

Foot lockers are getting opened and veterans' photos retrieved.  Here are some more.  Click HERE to take another look at the Veterans' Page.

'62 classmates Joel Zane and Denny Aiken in Vietnam, 1969

Mike Byrne '64 donned his Coast Guard whites for the 1970 funeral of his Commanding Officer.  I was unsuccessful in correcting the color.  It looks for all the world like a still shot from the movie The Sand Pebbles, about patrolling the Yangtze River in 1926.

Rick Alexander '67 had an Air Force job in Hawaii that involved working with the Navy in San Diego, so he got to visit his mom on a regular basis.  She took this photo in the mid-1980s at the family home in Talmadge.  She was my typing teacher and, when I taught at Hale Junior High, the Girls' Vice Principal.  You may have had her as a teacher also -- Betty Alexander.

A Night With Neptune was the theme of the ASB Ball, to be held February 23rd.  That and more in the February 22, 1962 Pacer.  Click HERE to check it out.

Chet Carney was one of three Colts selected for the Amigos de la Americas program.  Click HERE to read all about it in the February 25, 1972 Pacer.

Dietra Anderson sent me an envelope stuffed with bus passes, ASB cards, and other goodies.  The Star of the Show may this photo from the wedding of my classmate Donna Smith Towne.  I think I recognize most of these folks, but I'm not sure.  Click HERE to look at an enlarged version and correct my mistakes.

Pat Soper joined the Navy in 1963.  Click HERE to learn more.

Mike Kennedy shares a Chevy Super Sport video from 1963.  Click HERE for a 2-minute blast from the past.

My classmate Ron Carlson sent in this poster from when his cousin Jeff Cava ran for Senior Class President in 1969 .  I can almost hear This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius in the background.

Click HERE to peruse the February 16, 1967 Pacer.  It's a 6-page issue from 55 years ago.

It's been awhile since I came across a cartoon I thought was worth sharing.
This one from Bizarro is pretty good.

Three veterans have been added to the Colts Who Served page.
Click HERE to take a look.

Susan Wilkerson McCasland '71 served in the Air Force and Reserves until 2007

Navy Reservists Bob Mardon and Mike Nesbit, both from the Class of 1964, pose for a photo in 1968.

Ron Layton '64 was at Fort Ord in 1967

Janet Moldenhauer Albright ’65 died peacefully in her sleep on November 30, 2021.  She was born at Mercy Hospital and attended Blessed Sacrament, Crawford and SDSU.  Jan worked at UCSD Medical Center, initially at the UCSD Gifford Clinic, and then as Administrative Assistant to UCSD's Director of Medicine, a position she held until retirement.  Jan enjoyed the outdoors, including camping trips with her husband Walt and their children, summer festivals and winter skiing at Thanksgiving in Mammoth Lakes and hiking in the Sierras.  She was predeceased by her sisters, Patricia Moldenhauer and Mary Dietrich.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 11451 Blue Cypress Dr., San Diego, CA 92131.

I hope this is self-explanatory, because I don't have additional details.  Looks like the plan is to meet up in the parking lot at the Parkway Plaza Sears at 10 AM NEXT Saturday, then cruise to the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds where folks will share their memories of the late Al McBride.  Below is a photo of Patti Frazier and Al at a 1962 Crawford car show.

Looking like an extra from Happy Days, Jerry Lombardo '59 poses with his '55 Chevy during his Senior Year at Crawford.  Click HERE for a slightly larger view on the Cars We Drove to School page.

Mike Shannon '64 has added his photo to the Colts Who Served page.  Click HERE to scope it out.

Click HERE to take a look at the Pacer published February 2, 1967 -- 55 years ago.  I especially enjoyed the ad for the Jim Pagni produced James Brown concert at the Sports Arena.

Kim Leimbach Lasley '75 passed away January 23rd.  She is survived by, among others, her husband Jim Lasley, also from the Class of '75.

Philip Haberstroh ’76 died November 23, 1991.  He and  I were good friends through most of high school and afterwards.  Because of our last names we were often seated next to each other, and that is how we got to know each other.  We remained in touch throughout most of the ‘80s.  Tragically, he died in a house fire in Lakeside.  He was one of my best friends and I do still think about him after all these years -- Wayne Haire
